Police using the now famous, Vegas, a police canine unit has tracked down electricity vandals in Butaleja district.
Vegas was brought into action after community members reported to the Chairperson of Lubanga Cell, Bufujja Town Council, Butaleja District on Sunday morning, 14th December, 2025 that unknown persons had vandalized electrical wires from power poles.
According to a police statement issued on Monday, 15th December, 2025, the matter was reported to Bufujja Police Station, and the Officer in Charge (OC) Bufujja sought the support of the K9 Unit.

A police sniffer dog, K9 Vegas, was deployed to the scene and successfully picked up a human scent, which led officers to a semi-permanent house belonging to Esero Fred, located about 500 meters from the scene of the crime. The suspect was not found at home, and efforts to trace and arrest him are ongoing.
A search conducted at the premises resulted in the recovery of stolen cable wires and several other electronic items.
