Former presidential candidate, Robert Kasibante has withdrawn his election petition against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, citing high costs of litigation.
Kasibante who formally withdrew the petition on Friday, February 6, 2026, says the case would require about $5 million, an amount he says neither he nor his party can afford.
He also claims that political parties which had pledged financial support failed to honour their commitments, forcing him to resort to a “Plan B.”
He cited prohibitive costs and the complexity of pursuing further legal proceedings as reasons for his request.
In the application before the Supreme Court, Kasibante asks for leave to withdraw the petition he filed against President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Electoral Commission, and the Attorney General.
Kasibante, who contested on the National Peasants Party ticket, came sixth in the election.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has directed lawyers in the presidential election petition to file submissions on a withdrawal application by petitioner Robert Kasibante.
The closed-door directions by a nine-judge panel came as the court was due to rule on a separate application seeking recovery of documents from the Electoral Commission. Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka says the court will set a date to hear the application.
