KAMPALA: P.5 Pupil Hangs Self in School Dormitory, Police Arrests School Director, Matron

At least two suspects have been apprehended and detained by police following the death of Primary five pupil who was found hanging dead in a school dormitory.

 

The Kampala Metropolitan police spokeswoman, Racheal Kawala confirmed the arrest and incident revealing that the deceased was aged 14 and a pupil of Kololo Junior School, Kayunga Cell, Gombe Ward in Wakiso District.

 

Afande Kawala, identified the pupil as John Terry Kisekka whom she says was found hanging dead by fellow pupils at around 8pm on March 3, 2026, after night preps.

 

“Preliminary findings indicate that at about 2000hrs, as pupils returned to the dormitory from evening prep, they found Terry hanging inside the dormitory. They immediately informed the matron, who notified the school director. Police were later informed,” Afande Kawala explained.

 

Kawala noted that the deceased’s body was found hanging by a red scarf tied to a roofing pole in the dormitory.

 

Kawala further told the press that the school director and matron are currently in police custody to assist police in investigation of the matter.

 

“We urge schools, parents, and guardians to promptly report to the police or seek professional help whenever signs of depression or distress are observed in children. Taking time to talk to children, both at school and at home, is crucial.”

 

She said the deceased’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for post-mortem, pending burial arrangements.
