Health authorities in Bulambuli district are celebrating a significant decline in measles cases, from over 100 weekly to just 2.
Bulambuli district in February, 2026 through the health department declared the outbreak of measles disease.
The district acting health officer, Martin Naimu, while speaking to our reporter on Tuesday attributes the drop to massive vaccination efforts and awareness campaigns led by the health department, ministry of health, and the office of the Resident District Commissioner.
Naimu says the outbreak was declared in sub-counties like Muyembe, Bumasobo, and Bukise, but prompt action has brought the situation under control.
The Resident District Commissioner, George Magunda, urges residents to continue taking precautions to prevent further spread, as the disease hasn’t been declared fully contained.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease caused by the measles virus. It’s transmitted from one person to another through direct contact with an infected person’s respiratory droplets (e.g., coughing, sneezing), touching contaminated surfaces or objects, Airborne transmission (less common).
Signs and Symptoms are Fever, Cough, Runny nose, Red eyes (conjunctivitis), Rash (red, blotchy spots) on the face, neck, and chest, Koplik spots (small white spots inside the mouth), Loss of appetite and Fatigue.
