Residents of Bukokho, Bumbo, and Bumbo Town Council are in tears after a landslide cut off their only road, constructed last year under the oil seed program.

A landslide occurred in Bumbo Sub County on Sunday, 22nd March, 2026 during heavy downpour that pounded the area for about two hours.

Simon Wefunya, a local resident and Bumbo sub county youth chairperson, says the landslide destroyed crops like onions, cabbage, and bananas. He adds that movement of people from the four sub counties has been paralyzed since it’s the only connecting road.

David Mityelo, acting Namisindwa district production officer, says the road cost about 1 billion shillings and adding that it’s unfortunate the landslide has cut it off.

Residents; Sunday Mataya and Betty Khatoko urge the district to repair the road for accessibility. The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, allocated about 1 billion shillings to construct the road, aiming to help farmers transport crops like soya and groundnuts to nearby markets.
