Manafwa District has received a consignment of mosquito nets from the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Health Uganda and National Medical Stores as part of a nationwide campaign to combat malaria.

The distribution follows the launch of the Fifth Universal Coverage Campaign, which aims to provide free Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets (LLINs) between December 2025 and January 2026. The initiative targets over 80 percent coverage through a door-to-door distribution approach.

Manafwa District Health Officer, Nakhokho Ephraim, confirmed receipt of the mosquito nets on Tuesday, 24th March, 2026 noting that they have already been dispatched to all parishes for distribution to households.

“The nets have come at a critical time when malaria cases are high in the district. We urge residents to embrace this government program because its main goal is to reduce malaria in our communities,” Ephraim said.

Manafwa LC5 Chairman, Kigai Hosea Kimono, cautioned residents against misusing the nets, such as using them for nursery beds.

“These mosquito nets are safe. They do not contain bedbugs and do not affect men’s health. We call upon all residents to use them for their intended purpose,” Kimono emphasized.

He also urged distribution teams to ensure fairness so that every household benefits from the program.

The campaign is focusing on high-burden districts, with its initial phase covering different districts in the country. It aims to achieve a ratio of one mosquito net for every two people in a household.

Village Health Teams and local leaders are spearheading the door-to-door distribution exercise across the country.

The initiative is supported by partners including the Global Fund and the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative, alongside the Government of Uganda. It is expected to significantly reduce malaria infections, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children under five and pregnant women.
