MBALE
Mbale district has interdicted Samuel Wambi Sokoi, head teacher of Bumageni Army Barracks Primary School, who is currently in custody at Mbale Central Police Station Busoba over illegal fees collection.
Wambi was summoned by police last week following allegations of soliciting fees at the government school, contrary to RDC Bayole’s orders. Bayole had written to Wambi on March 11, questioning him about collecting fees ranging from 30,000/= to 100,000/= from pupils, which is illegal under the President’s directive on free education.
This was revealed by Samuel Sebikaat, principal legal officer at State House Anti-Corruption Unit on Wednesday’s 25th March, 2026 in exclusive interview with this reporter. Sebikaat said they instructed the CAO’s office to interdict Wambi as investigations continue.
He says Wambi’s file is being processed for court appearance on corruption charges and defying the Presidential directive.
Jimmy Nambilo, Education Desk Officer at State House, says Wambi’s case aims to serve as an example to other head teachers, insisting that they have to enforce the President’s directive and ensure education accessibility for all.
Meanwhile, Angella Akurut, Chief Administrative Officer of Mbale district confirmed the head teacher’s interdiction saying he was formally interdicted on Wednesday, 25th March, 2026 following government standing orders that any arrested officer is interdicted until completion of court processes.
