Former Bubulo East MP candidate George Sakwa has formally dragged MP Musila to Mbale High court over defamation.

A civil dispute has been filed before the High Court in Mbale involving former Bubulo East County parliamentary candidate Sakwa George and Hon. Musila John over alleged defamatory remarks made during a radio talk show.

Court documents seen indicate that Sakwa George has instituted a civil suit against Hon. Musila John, with a summons issued requiring the latter to file a defence within 15 days from the date of service. The summons, issued under the Civil Procedure Rules, warns that failure to respond may result in the case proceeding in his absence.

The case stems from a demand notice issued earlier by Luchivya & Co. Advocates, dated February 20, 2026, in which the law firm states it is acting on behalf of Sakwa George, who contested for the position of Member of Parliament for Bubulo East County in the recently concluded elections.

According to the lawyers, Hon. Musila allegedly made defamatory statements against their client during a radio talk show, Elgon Baraza, which aired on Elgon FM on January 24, 2026, between 10:00am and 1:00pm.

In the demand notice, Musila is accused of claiming that Sakwa conceded defeat through an SMS message and immediately left the country for the United States of America after the elections. The lawyers argue that these remarks portrayed Sakwa as having abandoned his supporters following his loss at the polls.

Sakwa’s legal team contends that the statements were false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation, prompting the decision to seek legal redress through the High Court.

The summons, issued by the Deputy Registrar and dated March 31, 2026, marks the formal commencement of the suit. Court records further indicate that service of the summons was effected in Mbale City on April 2, 2026.

Musila after receiving the summons said he is optimistic that he will win the case.
