April 14, 2026 — A suspected arson attack in Kagadi District has left a two-year-old child dead and her parents critically injured in a shocking early morning incident that has shaken the local community.
The attack occurred at around 3:00 a.m on Tuesday night in Mabaale North, Mabaale Town Council, when unknown individuals allegedly set a family home ablaze using a flammable substance believed to be petrol. The fire quickly engulfed the house, trapping the occupants inside.
The young victim, identified as Atuhura Sirati, reportedly died from suffocation after failing to escape the burning structure. Her parents sustained severe burn injuries and were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital before being referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.
Preliminary findings indicate that the attackers may have planned the act. Residents reported that the house door had been locked from the outside and blocked, making it difficult for the family to escape as the fire spread.
Local leaders condemned the incident, describing it as a cruel and inhumane act. “This is a barbaric attack that should not happen in our community. Disagreements must be handled through lawful means, not violence,” one area leader said.
There are also reports that a message allegedly left at the scene pointed to possible personal grievances, though authorities have not yet confirmed the exact motive behind the attack.
Police in the region have since launched investigations into the incident and confirmed that suspects have been arrested to assist with inquiries.
The tragic incident has left residents in fear, with many calling for increased security and vigilance to prevent similar attacks in the future.
