The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has pardoned Maj. Gen Don William Nabasa, the former Commander of Special Forces (SFC) as the Ex- UPDF Joint Staff for Policy and Strategy, after freezing for two months in military prison over alleged corruption related offences.
This was confirmed by Gen Muhoozi through his X handle on Thursday May 28, 2026, noting that the release followed, a long meeting with Gen Nabasa on the same day.
“I’m glad to announce that after a long meeting with Maj. General Don Nabasa today, I have decided to release him and drop all the charges he was facing. I thank him for the good work he has done in our mighty military since he joined in 1998. God bless UPDF!” he posted.
However, Gen Muhoozi didn’t mention on whether he would reinstate Maj Gen Nabasa to his former position or transfer him to another department after his release.
It should be recalled that Maj. Gen Nabasa was arrested alongside Brig Johnson Namanya Abaho over alleged corruption related offences on March 27, 2026.
However a few days later, Gen.Muhoozi cleared Brig Johnson Namanya Abaho over allegations of corruption after a lengthy meeting between the two Generals. Brig. Namanya was later reinstated on his job in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where he is the Commissioner for Citizenship and Passport Management at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control.
A credible source told us that the two senior officers were incarcerated at the SFC Kasenyi military detention facility along Entebbe road.
