Shock engulfed residents of Buwisoni Village, Kisekele Parish, Bumbo Sub-county, in Namisindwa District, after a 23-year-old man, under the influence of opium, kicked his colleague, who later succumbed to the injuries.
The suspect has been identified as Badru Wabuya, 23, from Buwisoni Village, Kisekele Parish, Bumbo Sub-county, Namisindwa District.
According to Simon Wefunya, an eyewitness, the deceased has been identified as Ronnie Netambali, 20, from Butemulani B Village, Bulwundu Parish, Bumbo Sub-county, Namisindwa District.
He says the two had a disagreement over unknown issues on Sunday, 31st May, 2026 at a drinking place, when Wabuya kneed his colleague in the abdomen seriously injuring him.
He adds that the deceased did not die on the spot but fell ill until Monday morning, when his relatives attempted to take him to Bumbo Health Center III for treatment but unfortunately died on the way.
Julius Wamele, the area LC1 Chairperson, says both the deceased and suspect had been smoking opium and drinking excessively for a long time after abandoning education.
He urged parents to educate their children and to always counsel them to stop drinking so that such incidents can end.
Fred Khisa, LC1 Chairperson of Khatosi Village, a neighboring area, says the suspect is currently on the run.
By press time, police had not yet commented.
