A 64-year-old Canadian national, Michel Faille, has been remanded to Luzira Prison following charges related to an alleged gold fraud case involving about $1.5 million (roughly Shs5.5 billion).

Faille was arraigned before Kampala Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa on Friday, 1st July, 2026 and was remanded until August 12, 2026, to allow investigators more time to inquire into the allegations.

According to prosecution, the accused is linked to a scheme in which individuals were allegedly misled into parting with large sums of money in connection with gold transactions.

The case adds to growing scrutiny of Uganda’s gold trade, where authorities have previously warned investors and traders to exercise caution when engaging in high-value mineral deals.

The accused will return to court on August 12 for further mention of the case. He remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.
