PALLISA
Police in Pallisa district have detained a one Musa Chebeni, a site Engineer and the director attached to KACT & LMT Construction Company Limited after delivering a substandard structure at a government aided Kagwese primary school located in Kagwese Ward, Pallisa Town Council.
Trouble for the contractor started when the community and the school administration raised concern about the quality of the newly constructed toilet block.
Led by Joseph Magola, chairperson school management committee, the community mobilized and demolished the structure citing an explanation from Mr. Chabeni on why he delivered shoddy work on a block that they expect to serve the community for a long period.
The Senior District Engineer -Pallisa District Mr. Ben Okalebo, told our reporter that last week, they held a meeting with all contractors and resolved to stop all construction works until the Easter holidays are done.
However, to his surprise, the school administration informed him today, 11th April, 2023 that the contractor had defied the district directive and commissioned a structure which is subnormal.
On his part, Majid Dhikusoka, the District Resident Commissioner told our reporter that after receiving information about the matter, he visited the site and later ordered the police to arrest the contractor and carry out a thorough investigation about the same.
