Police are hunting for a 20-year-old youth in Namisindwa district for murdering a 3-year-old baby under the influence of marijuana.

The suspect is identified as Simon Makeme, a resident of Busamo village, Namisindwa parish, Bupoto Sub County in Namisindwa district.

According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, Makeme on Monday, 12th June, 2023 early morning saw the minor crying on the road following his mother who was doing garden work nearby.

Makeme, while armed with a panga, asked the boy to keep quiet instead of making for him noise. However, when the kid continued crying, he cut him severally on the head until he died on the spot due to over bleeding. He then ran away after the heinous act.

Taitika also says that after Makeme killed the boy, locals who responded to the mother’s alarm tried to chase after him but in vain.

Damascus Mukeme, the LCIII chairperson of Bupoto Sub County has condemned the incident and warned youths in the area against drug abuse.

He adds that last month with the help of the police they uprooted two gardens of marijuana due to increased cases which had cropped up in the area but soon they are going to resume the crackdown.
