A 60 year old man has been given 40 strokes of hard canes on his buttocks for allegedly trying to rape his younger biological sister aged 16 years.
The unfortunate incident took place at Butsebeni cell, Bumalanga Ward, Bubutu Town Council in Namisindwa district.
The suspect identified as Emmanuel Situma received the canes from clan leaders yesterday, 14th June, 2023 after he was caught the previous night, (Tuesday) tearing the sister’s clothes in a nearby plantation in a rape mood where a funeral was taking place.
According to an eye witness who preferred anonymity, Situma on Tuesday night while at the funeral home of Samuel Mangwo who was lynched last week by the angry congregation of Isaa Masiya church. Mangwo had earlier butchered John Wamoto the pastor, and injured Agatha Nambuya when he had been taken to be prayed for due to mental illness.
He adds that Situma was tempted to rape his young sister at night in a nearby banana plantation but she made an alarm which attracted mourners who saved the younger girl when he had already torn all her inner clothes.
Sam Muggawu, the publicity secretary of the Buwambwa-Butsebeni clan says that they summoned Situma on Wednesday morning at the clan court and lashed him with 40 strokes as a punishment.
Muggawu warned his fellow clan members against involving in incest saying it’s against African culture and norms.
However, Situma has dismissed the allegations saying they are aimed at tarnishing his name.
