The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Commander, Mountain Brigade and Operation Shuja, Major General Dick Olum has said that none of the abducted 6 students of Lubhiriha Secondary School in Mpondwe, Kasese has been rescued.
Major General Dick Olum made the revelation on 23rd June 2023 while responding to media reports that UPDF had rescued three of the abducted students.
“It is important to note that no abductees have been rescued thus far. However, the UPDF remains fully committed to the safe return of these children to their families,” Major General Dick Olum says.
He also says that UPDF has managed to kill 6 of the attackers led by a one Abua Kasi and recovered six guns. UPDF first recovered 3 guns 2 days after the attack and another three on the 22nd of June 2023 from the same splinter group led by Abua Kasi.
On the three children rescued earlier that the media wrongly reported as the Lhubirira Secondary school students, Olum explains that these children are from Masaka and were rescued after UPDF engaged the ADF rebels at Mwalika Valley at the Conference of River Taliha and River Semuliki.
He also revealed that there are two Brigades deployed in the bushes to track down the attackers and possibly rescue the abducted girls.
The Allied Democratic Force rebels in a terrorist attacked and killed 42 students of Lhubirira Secondary School in Mpondwe, 2 kilometers from the DRC border.
The attack that was confirmed by Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, took place on the night of Friday, 16th June, 2023.
Enanga said the ADF rebels burnt one boys dormitory burning all occupants beyond recognition, raided the girls’ dormitory and raped and hacked majority to death before looting a food store.
