Authorities in Bukedea Town Council in Bukedea district have announced plans to revoke the contractor’s contract tendering the Bukedea cattle weekly market.
Revoking contractors is a planned strategy agreed by the council leadership with an aim of streamlining the leaking gap of local revenue collection.
Sam Engole, the Bukedea Town Council LCIII chairperson confirmed this saying, it will be implemented by 1st, August 2023.
He said on Friday, 21st July, 2023, the council called for an emergency meeting to discuss issues pertaining to the leaking gaps of local revenue collections mostly at the weekly market.
“We called for the emergency meeting as a council to share ideas and to agree on how to revive the structures of local revenue collection,” said Engole.
NOTE: This website also learnt that last week, the Bukedea Town Council Town Clerk, Vincent Akol was accused of conniving with one of the contractors to reduce the debt from 106m to 20m demanded by the town council from Orongat Market Vendor’s Cooperative Society Limited which was one of the market tenderers.
Alex Awogon Onyait, one of the market vendors together today 24th, July 2023 said the taxes charged in the market by the market tenderer are over alarming.
He said the decision of the council to revoke all contracts of market tenderers is a right decision.
“Let the market first be returned to the hands of the town council and let the people within the town council operate the market,” said Onyait.
