The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development in partnership with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards has launched a fight against the sale of adulterated fuel in Eastern Uganda.

According to Frank Hustaf Tukwasibwe, commissioner petroleum supply department at the ministry of energy and mineral development, the purpose of the sensitization workshop was to empower fuel dealers with knowledge about the quantity and quality of fuel they sell to the public.
He adds that the government is getting lots of cases about adulterated fuel which most petrol stations sell.
Tukwasibwa adds that some fuel dealers tend to mix kerosene with petrol or diesel ending up damaging the engines of clients’ cars.
Daniel Nangalama Makayi, the Acting Executive Director of Uganda National Bureau of Standards says all fuel which is imported in the country is tested by their officers at the coast.
He added that it is fuel smuggled into the country through the porous borders which is mixed with others.
Makayi also says that they are going to launch a crackdown on petrol stations which sell fuel which is adulterated and tamper with pumps with the aim of cheating clients.
Muhammad Farah, manager of Haliro petrol station embraces the sensitization exercise urging UNBS to start the crackdown as soon as possible to get those who are involved in selling adulterated fuel.
He urged UNBS to arrest and stop people selling fuel in Jerrycans since they are putting lives of people in danger and selling adulterated fuel.
