PALLISA
The police in Pallisa district have arrested a woman identified as Christine Amoding who is accused of burning her own 7-year old child for allegedly stealing local greens stew known as “Ikote” from the pot.
According to Amoding, she punished the little girl because she had stolen stew “Ikote” and millet bread “Wita” she had kept for her husband.
Amoding is married to William Agama, all residents of Odwarata village, Odwarata Parish, Olok sub County, Pallisa district. Mr. Agama is not the biological father of the girl who was tortured.
Preliminary investigation point out that after Amoding burnt her daughter, she took her to Olok health Center III yesterday, 31/10/2023, but when she reached there she failed to tell the nurses what exactly had happened to the 7-year old girl who had open fresh wound injuries in her palms and fingers.
She had covered the wounds with local herbs however, the wounds could not stop producing pus which indicated that the incident happened some days back.
After failing to explain the truth to the medical workers, one of the nurses decided to call the Sub County LClll Chairperson Mr. Paul Omurwani to come and witness the brutal act that a mother had inflicted on her own child.
Mr. Omurwani told our reporter that when he reached the health center, the nurses told him that the child had been subjected to severe burn injuries and the mother could not avail detailed information on how the child got burnt.
He said that when he insisted on asking the woman why she had burnt her daughter, the woman told him that she did so because the little girl had stolen stew “Ikote” and millet bread “Wita” she had kept for her husband.
He adds that the mother has been arrested and is currently detained at Pallisa Central Police Station. He has urged parents to desist from acts of domestic violence against children. The police are yet to release the statement about the matter.
