The former vice chairperson of Mbale District Local Government also doubling as councilor representing Bungokho Sub County has asked the district executive to give accountability of two motorcycles which were procured by the district in 2022.
Tonny Wamakale made the demand on Wednesday, 1st November at Malukhu Lukhobo Hall during the budget conference.
Mbale district procured two motorcycles under the finance department to help officers who collect taxes to use them as means of transport to the field.
According to Wamakale, council approved money to buy the motorcycles but since then, they have never received any report about money collected since they bought them.
He asked the district chairperson, Mohamed Mafabi and CAO to come out publicly and explain to the councilors about how much money the district is generating due to the procurement of the motorcycles.
In response, Kenneth Wamanga, the Mbale District Chief Financial Officer said that the motorcycles have helped the district to improve on tax collection.
He adds that in 2021/22 financial year, the district collected 600 million, in the 2022/2023 FY, they collected 800 million shillings and this financial year, 2023/24, they collected 400 million after Mbale City annexed most sub counties which have been giving the district much money.
Mohamed Mafabi, the LCV chairperson of Mbale district, referred to Wamakale as a leader who is trying to play cheap politics.
He urged him to always use proper ways of looking for answers as a leader by approaching concerned authorities than raising such issues in council.
