Police has given more details about the Hill Side Secondary School teacher who was arrested on Saturday, 13th January, 2024 sneaking into his student’s room in Mityana.
In a statement released today, 17th January, 2024, by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan, the suspect John Sseremba is 40 years and his intended victim is only 15 years old.
Teacher Detained on Suspected Attempted Defilement of 15-He says that the suspect is currently being held by Kanyanya Territorial Police, Mukono district.
Sseremba, a teacher of Hillside Secondary School is being held over allegations of attempting to defile a 15-year-old girl who attends the same school.
Reports indicate that Mr. Kato John Ssenfuma, the teacher in question, was arrested following a complaint by Ms. Sheilah, 26, a resident of Kyebando Erisa Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, who is the guardian of the 15-year-old.
Ms. Sheilah raised concerns about Mr. Ssemfuma’s communication with the juvenile via WhatsApp, leading to his invitation to their premises.
On January 13, 2024, Mr. Ssemfuma traveled to the designated venue and was subsequently apprehended upon arrival.
A Police surgeon’s examination confirmed the well-being of the victim, as the intended activity did not transpire.
Owoyesigyire, says further that he case file has been submitted to the office of the Resident State Attorney, and the Kanyanya Police have received guidance on the next steps.
“The file is pending resubmission for sanctioning, and the suspect will face charges as determined by the Prosecution,” says Owoyesigyire adding that further details will be provided in due course.
