In what appears to be a desperate robbery, two armed thugs waylaid a Tororo Municipality tycoon at his home at about 10:30PM and took away his 2kgs of meat, a loaf of bread, three Techno phones and Shs40,000.
The incident took place on the night of Tuesday, 30th January, 2024 at Asinge A Cell, Asinge Ward, Osukuru Town Council, Tororo District.
According to Moses Mugwe, the South Bukedi Police Spokesperson, the victim, Ekapolon Wilbroad, 48 years old and Etesot by tribe was waylaid by the when he was coming back from his business place at Tororo Municipality.
Ekapalon who came back home driving his Toyota Harrier, No. UBK 582 T, parked in his compound as he was waiting for his family members to open for him the garage.
Before the garage was opened, two unidentified men emerged from the fence, one armed with an Ak 47 gun and another one armed with a hammer dressed in civilian attire put him at gunpoint and ordered him to open the car while asking for money.
“They then opened the car themselves and searched it and in the process robbed him of three (3) tecno smart phones, 2kgs of fresh meat, one loaf of bread and cash fourty thousand shillings,” says Mugwe.
The victim made an alarm which attracted his family members and neighbours to come out and also made alarm and in the process the thugs shot one bullet and boarded an unidentified motorcycle which came and they escaped from the scene.
However, a report was registered at Osukuru Police Post vide SD Ref: 30/31/01/2024 and later Tororo CRB 092/2024.
The scene of crime was visited and documented by SOCO and homicide detectives commanded by D/SP Batumwa Charles, the District CID Officer Tororo.
The three Tecno mobile phones of the victim were found dropped along the road about 100 meters from the scene and were recovered.
Mugwe says investigations are ongoing to arrest the robbers who are still at large.
