The National Executive Committee of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has resolved to recall the former Leader of Opposition, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga as Parliamentary Commissioner.
This is contained in a letter written to Mpuuga by the Party’s Acting National President, Dr. Lina Zadriga Waru dated 5th March, 2024.

According to Dr. Zadriga, the National Executive Committee sat on Monday 4th March, 2024 and considered the serious accusations of Corruption and Abuse of Office against Hon. Mathias Mpuuga.
In the meeting, which Mpuuga was invited but chose not to attend, NEC resolved to recall him from the Parliamentary Commission if he does not provide a satisfactory explanation in writing within seven (7) days. His office received this communication on Tuesday. This process became necessary after he was strongly advised to step down in public interest and he declined to do so.
The decision follows allegations that Mpuuga on the 6th March, 2022, while still LOP, sat together with the Speaker of Parliament and three Parliamentary Commissioners and awarded themselves Shs1.7Billion in the infamous ‘Service Awards.”
Mpuuga has conceded to participating in the meeting and indeed receiving the Shs500M paid to him in form of Service Award while the other 3 commissioners pocketed Shs400M each.
