Police have swept Arua city clean following the arrest of 32 suspected hardcore criminals.

The gang was rounded up during a fierce operation conducted on the night of Monday March 25, 2024 following numerous complaints from the members of the public.

Police said seven numberless motorcycles were also impounded in the operation that covered the areas of Ediofe trading center/mission cell, Lumumba cell, Adriko cell, Arua primary, Air Japan, Upper Bibia, Drivers’ corner, prison cell and Oli D cell.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile sub-region police spokesperson noted that the suspects are being charged with possession of breaking implements, robberies, possession of opium and other related cases.

“The breaking implements, dangerous weapons, and Opium recovered were exhibited. The Suspects are being detained at Arua police Central Business Division pending investigations and upon sanctioning their casefile, they will be taken to court to answer the preferred charges,” Angucia said.

Meanwhile, she observed that some of the suspects have been charged with previous offences committed.

“This operation was done due to public outcry of numberless motorcycles robbing pedestrians on road and other related cases,” Angucia remarked.

She, however, promised that such operations will continue in other areas until sanity is restored in the entire Arua city.
