TORORO

The Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament has asked these year’s pilgrims from Tororo district to use their journey of faith to pray for Tororo municipality to be elevated to a city status.

Apollo Yeri who was flagging off over 50 pilgrims of Sacred Heart parish on Monday, 27th May, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church noted that there is nothing which impacts more than prayers.

Yeri, who was trekking with the pilgrims, asked them among other things to pray for the elevation of Tororo municipality into a city because it comes with a cocktail of services and more resources from the government.

Yeri noted that the move to have the municipality elevated to a city should be everybody’s efforts not for tribal or cultural reasons but instead should be motivated by development.

Once a city, Yeri says enough money for roads, water projects, Capital development, environment and trade will be channeled hence solving most of the problems the municipality is grappling with.

He also asked the pilgrims to pray for the general development of Tororo municipality in all sectors including security so that genuine development can be realized.

Asked why he is participating in this year’s pilgrimage, Yeri says he is thanking God for undergoing a successful complicated surgery that almost resulted in a stroke from India.

He said without prayers from the municipality people, he could have died and this has been the reason why he was not actively picking phone calls because the doctors directed him to rest for Six months.

The MP also as a move to thank God blessed the pilgrims with Shs300,000 to buy water and also donated 43 mathematical sets to candidates of Sacred Heart primary school found at Sacred Heart church to enable them prepare effectively for Primary Leaving Examinations.

Aloysius Opio the assistant parish priest of Sacred Heart asked the pilgrims to use their journey to intercede for the families and leaders so that their services are acceptable before God.

Bernate Olokojo the head of Sacred Heart pilgrims said that they intend to move for a period of 5 days to Namugongo.

The Tororo district acting district police commander, Elly Kaigwa said that he is going to coordinate with all the security operatives along the pilgrimage route to ensure that they arrive safely.

Bernate, now a pilgrim for 8 consecutive years, says that the many testimonies many pilgrims have registered during and after the trip of faith is an encouragement to many.
