A renowned Opposition politician in Kachumbala County, Bukedea district has survived an attack by armed assailants.

Nathan Oluka who had expressed interest in vying for Kachumbala County MP seat in 2021 has his home attacked on the night of Sunday, 16th June, 2024 at Obur village, Kachumbala at about 2:00AM.

According to Mukula, Oluka’s wife, the assailants accessed the house they usually sleep in using a Smart ladder to climb to the roof top, opened it and jumped into the house.

“Fortunately they didn’t get any person in the house but they searched every corner in the house, opened boxes using sharp objects, turned everything upside down and carried two bags full of clothes,” she told this website.

Mukula Hellen reported the issue to Kachumbala Police Station Vide SD Ref 05/15/06/2024 who introduced a Police Sniffer dog to the scene. However, the dog when introduced to the scene, rotated around his other house and mango trees several times, went along the main tarmac road where it branched to some anthill, came back on the main road, then went to the banana and cassava gardens, went back home and back to the tarmac road till it lifted its head,” says Mukula.

According to the police at the scene of crime, the dog’s lifting its head was a sign that the assailants boarded either a motorcycle or vehicle.

She says police officers suspected the assailants to have been between 3-4 and had other intentions other than theft.

“They accessed the home in a more tactical manner, the machete that they dropped and the items they took were less valuable than what they left behind in the house,” she says adding that the clothes they took was more of frustration.

The family members survived this attack because none of them was at home. Oluka himself is out of the country while the wife slept at the Trading Center that night since it had rained heavily.

Oluka now believes this a politically motivated attack since he is an opposition politician.

He made his point to this website saying this is the 5th attack on his home and that he has variously been arrested over trumped up charges.

He says that on 22nd November, 2022 he was arrested for allegedly mobilizing locals to connect electricity to their houses yet he had just come back from Dubai when people already had power in their houses besides.

“I was arrested and taken to Bukedea CPS where I spent over 48hrs and no charge was pressed against me, only to be told by CID Bukedea that they wanted me to be jailed  so as to keep me away from enlightening the locals,” Oluka told this publication on phone.

Then on July 6th, 2023, during the LCV by-elections nominations, he survived an illegal arrest by police for supporting a non NRM candidate.

“Instead my young brother, Kokas was arrested and charged for possessing electoral materials yet he was an agent of an LCV 5 aspirant, he was told that he could only be released if the RDC Bukedea gave instructions to that effect and if he could tell the police where I was,” narrates Oluka.
