Kumi Resident District Commissioner, (RDC) Ahamada Washaki has ordered for the arrest of Bernard Edeit, the Headteacher of Aakum Primary School.
Edeit is accused of misappropriation of UPE funds under the disguise of organising P7 Mock Examinations for primary schools in Kumi District.
According to RDC Washaki, he received information that Mr. Edeit being the Chairperson of Kumi Primary School headteachers’ Association had hiked the exam fees from the usual Shs4500 to Shs10,000 per P7 pupil.
Wasahaki argues that the move was likely to affect other learners where government gives capitation grant of Shs6633 per term for catering for exams and all school activities.
It’s said that Edeit, had connived with all headteachers to hike the cost so that they can share dividends with other head teachers who are said to pocket Shs3000 per child and leave Shs7000 for himself and Etalu George, the director of Alpha Book Shop where the money is paid.
It’s upon that, that the RDC Kumi Ahamada Washaki ordered his arrest and probed investigations into the matter on Tuesday, 23rd July, 2024.
He also awarned schools against imposing illegal fees in Government Schools as per the Presidential directive on UPE and USE schools.
