Police in Mbale district are holding a 27 year old man over allegations of defiling a 5 year old girl after convincing her with sweets.
The suspect is identified as James Namakhanyu, a resident of Rongoro village, Bunashimolo parish, Bukiende Sub County in Mbale district.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, Namakhuyu convinced the five year old girl on Monday, 30th September, 2024 at their home where she was alone with her 4 year old brother.
He says the parents of the minors were attending to a patient at Mbale regional referral hospital.
He says that the suspect got the kids playing at home, he called the girl and convinced her that he is going to buy her sweets and in the process took her to his home where he defiled her.
According to Taitika, the minor later revealed to neighbours who immediately arrested him and took him to police.
The spokesperson says the suspect has been arrested while the minor is currently on medical examination before getting treatment.
