TORORO: One Arrested Following Theft of 7 Cattle in Osia Sub County

Police in Tororo district have arrested one suspect in connection with the theft of 7 cattle in Katerema C village in Osia Sub County on Tuesday morning, 15th October, 2024.

 

It’s reported that unknown thieves on Monday raided and stole 5 cows belonging to a widow identified as Adikini Manjeri, one belonged to Daniel Odoi and the other one is for Wilberforce Siongo all residents of Katerama C village in Osia Sub County.

 

Upon stealing the cattle, they were slaughtered and packed in a vehicle registration number UAR 964Q unskinned and the animals’ intestines were left at the place of slaughter in Katerama C.

 

Workers at Tororo solar north were able to witness the unfolding events in Katerema C and immediately informed the police who introduced the motorized patrol that finally intercepted the vehicle at Mile 1 Mbale road. The occupants of the vehicle abandoned the car and are currently on the run.

 

The police then went to the crime scene where they introduced a sniffer dog that moved up to the house of Wilberforce Oketcho up to his hideout where he was being guarded by UPDF officers who created chaotic scenes when they were intending to arrest him.

 

Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South regional police spokesperson said they have currently launched investigations with the aim of identifying the owner of the vehicle and those who were aboard.

 

Mugwe admitted the rise in the rate of animal theft in the district however he says as police, they are doing whatever it takes to curtail this vice and hence asked the other law enforcers like court and state prosecutors to give those arrested over theft high punitive sentences to serve as examples to the community members.
