President Museveni has in exercise of his Prerogative of Mercy as enshrined in Article 121 of the Constitution of Uganda granted pardon to 130 convicted prisoners.
This was revealed by the Prisons Service Spokesperson, Frank Baine in a press statement dated 21st October, 2024 saying the President took the decision on 15th October, 2024.
Majority of the pardoned convicts were culprits of minor offences that ranged from petty theft, assault, obtaining money by false pretense, trespass, house breaking and traffic offenses.
Baine says the pardon was reached at on humanitarian grounds and public health and all the pardoned convicts have since been released from their various prisons.
