Patients in Iganga hospital are living in fear following the sorry state of the hospitals wards ceilings which is on the verge of collapsing.

One of the patients in the male ward, who declined to be identified, said any time the ceiling is likely to collapse on them and that they reported the concern to the hospital authority to come and fix but in vain.
The situation is not any better in the administration block, female and in the children wards respectively. All the affected facilities also have leaking roofs further worsening the condition.
The acting Hospital Administrator, Wakabi Deo told this publication on Tuesday, 22nd October, 2024 that they forwarded the concern to the district authority and they are still waiting for the reply.
He said the hospital receives less money to fix such concerns and it requires concerted efforts of both the district and Ministry of Health to address such issues.
Apart from the new hospital facility blocks, the affected blocks were constructed way back in 1960’s and they need urgent renovation.
In a related development, water is no longer going to be an issue in this hospital after the hospital authorities procured machines to fix the hospital water pump.
Wakabi says the gadgets cost them 31m shillings and that this will address shortage of piped water in the hospital. He thanked the office of the hospital Medical Superintendents, DHO and the district leadership for the development.
The hospital had gone 3 months without water due to accumulated water bills prompting NWSC to cut off water hence affecting proper service delivery. He however expressed concern of the accumulating electricity bill which they are struggling to set off.
