Bulambuli district local government is finally going to advertise all the four top departmental head positions following pressure mounted by Beatrice Akello Akori, Minister of State, Office of the President (Economic Monitoring).
Akello while on a regional tour to inspect government projects last week was shocked to be informed that four top positions in the district had Acting heads. The four positions are; District Engineer, District Health Officer, District Education Officer and District Planner.
The infuriated Minister tasked the Chief Administrative Officer and the LCV Chairperson to coordinate with the District Service Commission to have these vacancies advertised.
The minister was also shocked to hear that those positions are having people who are acting for over five years and to make matters worse, some don’t meet the minimum academic qualifications.
Annet Nagudi, the LCV chairperson while speaking to our reporter on Monday, 2nd November, 2024 in an exclusive interview said that according to the government standing order, someone can only act in public office for six months.
She however, says that they delayed advertising the positions because the district service commission was not fully constituted and they had to appoint the fifth member before it could legally conduct business.
She says that while assuming office in 2021 general elections they advertised those positions in newspapers but nobody applied for them over reasons they do not know.
Godfrey Epera, the Bulambuli district chief administrative officer says that the district through the service commission will this week advertise all the four positions such that legible Ugandans can apply and fill them.
Some of the councilors who preferred anonymity, say that the positions have taken long without being filled because some district executive members are buying time for their relatives and children to finish studies and occupy them.
