SIRONKO
Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Budadiri West MP, expressed outrage during a road monitoring exercise in Sironko after discovering that district authorities had included a road he personally funded for maintenance in their report of roads allegedly worked on by the district.
On Wednesday morning, 8th January, 2025, Nandala embarked on a field monitoring trip in his constituency, focusing on the state of roads.
He was accompanied by Sironko Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Nelson Kiranda, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Balwanila, and all district councilors in a joint monitoring exercise funded by himself.
Nandala emphasized that the aim of the exercise was to ensure value for money, not to target anyone unfairly. He explained that his actions were part of his mandatory oversight role as an MP.
In Bukhulo Sub-County, Nandala was shocked to discover that a road he had personally funded for maintenance was listed among the roads allegedly worked on by the district, a revelation that deeply angered him. Assistant Engineer, Nasusi Charles was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the misrepresentation.
District Chairman David Livingstone Giruli acknowledged challenges with the engineering department but blamed councilors for often being compromised to support improper actions. He vowed to ensure the delivery of quality services moving forward.
The monitoring exercise is set to continue throughout the district.
