The police in Kumi central police station are holding a Parish Chief and a Sacco chairperson over extorting PDM beneficiaries purporting to enable them to benefit from the program.

Irene Akello, the Assistant RDC Kumi in charge Kanyumu County identified the duo as David Ediru, parish chief of Nyaguwo parish and Nespal Obwor, a SACCO chairperson of Nyaguwo who extorted money from over 36 beneficiaries ranging from twenty thousand up to the tune of one hundred thousand shillings.

Akello noted that the duo were rushed to Kumi CPS on Wednesday, 8th January, 2025 to record statements following the concerns raised by the community .

Akello revealed that Kadami Sub County is the lead Sub County in extortion of funds from the PDM beneficiaries and it’s the second time the arrests are being conducted.

“Anyone who is found sabotaging government programs like PDM where the President has much hopes in to ensure households get out of poverty, shall be arrested”, says Akello.

Simeon Shane Malinga, the LC3 chairperson of Kadami Sub County blames some of Sacco leaders of mixing local conflicts with government programs.

Malinga states that his office receives reports of some PDM leaders avoiding to support some community members to benefit from the PDM program over their unknown grievances.

He warned then to refrain from mixing their personal conflicts with government programs and he encouraged them to implement the program without considering religion, parties among others.

Meanwhile, David Ediru denied the allegations saying he did not pick money from the beneficiaries.
