A 24 year old boda boda rider operating at Lwakhakha Touncil has lost both his life and motorcycle to thugs who hired him to purportedly transport smuggled items from Kenya into Uganda.
According to police, Wakhata Ivan was murdered on the night of 16th January, 2025 and his body discovered on 18th January by passersby dumped in River Lwakhakha, which forms the border between Kenya and Uganda.
The residents then alerted the boda boda riders’ chairman, a one Nyaranga Hassan who then reported the matter to police.
According to Muhammad Kisongoti, the LCIII Chairperson of Lwakhakha Town Council, the deceased was a resident of Nalondo cell, Bukibayi ward, Lwakhakha town council, Namisindwa district.
Kisongoti says that the unknown attackers convinced Wakhata to transport smuggled items from Kenya into Uganda using his motorcycle, registration number UXT 151Z, via the porous border. However, upon reaching the Lwakhakha River, the attackers hit Wakhata on the head with what is suspected to be a sharp object killing him instantly, before fleeing with his motorcycle.
The murder took place in Lukhuna cell, Bukemo ward, Lwakhakha Town Council on the night of January 16, 2025, at an unknown time.
Police spokesperson Rogers Taitika stated that the deceased was last seen on January 16, 2025, at the boda boda stage in Lwakhakha during the evening hours.
However, on January 18, 2025, his body was discovered near the Lwakhakha River in a bush by passersby, who alerted the boda boda chairman. The chairman subsequently reported the discovery to the police.
