Parents and pupils of Morikatipe View Primary school in Tororo district on Monday 3rd February,2025 stormed the office of the Tororo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) carrying placards, asking the RDC to help delay the demolition of the school as they prepare to see the way Forward.

Some of the parents said they don’t have money for new school uniforms for their children after decision was made that they may take them to nearby schools.

Annet Nyadoi, one of the parents says that after buying the scholastic Materials and sending their children to school having been the official opening day, they went to school only to find it closed.

“I hustled hard as a parent to get for my children the school requirements, knowing they are to start studies today. These leaders are playing with the education of our children,” Nyadoi said.

Albert Amula, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Tororo says that they had a clear program of relocating pupils of Morikatipe View Primary school to Amagoro Primary school, a thing that many parents have refused citing the long distance and logistical challenges, especially for young children.

Instead, they insist on having temporary classrooms set up at a yet-to-be-identified location closer to their homes.

Amula now urges for some time to talk to the top leadership of the standard gauge railway in Kampala to allow them use the premises for only this term.

Parents, authorities, and district leaders must find a solution soon to prevent further escalation and ensure the students’ education is safeguarded.

For now, the community waits to see whether authorities will meet their demands or proceed with demolition, risking heightened backlash.
