KAMPALA: Man Remanded for Conspiring with Environmental Police Officer to Grab Wetland

Kiwanuka Jackson, has appeared before the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of conspiracy to defraud.

 

Kiwanuka who was charged on Tuesday, 15th April, 2025 by the State House Anti-corruption Unit allegedly conspired with Police Constable Katungi Alex, an officer attached to the Environmental Protection Police Unit under the Ministry of Water and Environment to fraudulently obtain land from a victim, Mutebi John Baptist.

 

In March 2023, Kiwanuka conspired with Police Constable Katungi Alex, an officer attached to the Environmental Protection Police Unit under the Ministry of Water and Environment to fraudulently obtain land from a victim, Mutebi John Baptist.

 

PC Katungi allegedly threatened to evict Mutebi from his land in March, 2023, located near a wetland, if he did not agree to give him a portion of it.

 

Under duress, Mutebi consented to surrendering a portion of his land to PC Katungi, who then facilitated the transfer of ownership into the name of Kiwanuka. However, no payment was made to Mutebi for the land.

 

PC Katungi was previously charged and remanded until April 25, 2025 for demanding money with menaces. Kiwanuka was also equally remanded until April, 25 2025.
