A decomposing body of an unidentified woman has been found floating on Lake Victoria shores in Mayuge district.
According to Michael Kafayo, the Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson, the body was discovered in Bukatube Sub-county, Mayuge District on Lake Victoria shores on Thursday, 1st May, 2025.
Kafayo says that a local resident reported to the area chairman about a body seen floating in the lake 1stMmay 2025. Upon investigation, police confirmed it was a body of an unidentified woman. Officers from the Katube Police Station responded to the scene and retrieved the body from the Lake.
Preliminary statements collected from area residents revealed that no one recognized the deceased woman. The body was taken to Mayuge Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death—whether it was due to foul play or natural causes.
The police are currently working to identify the woman and locate her relatives. The body was reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition at the time of retrieval.
