Sanjay Tanna: The Entrepreneurial Messiah Uganda Didn’t Know It Needed

By Steven Enatu

SOROTI CITY

In a country where political promises are as plentiful as mangoes in December and just as likely to rot, one man is stepping forward with more than sweet words he’s bringing the seeds of transformation.

Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Uganda’s unexpected answer to a prayer whispered by every jobless graduate and hustling youth: “Give us a leader who actually gets things done.”

Former two-term Member of Parliament for Tororo Municipality, Tanna isn’t just knocking on the door of leadership he’s kicking it open with the swagger of a man who’s not here to play musical chairs in the halls of power.

Now gunning for the chairmanship of the National Entrepreneur’s League  in the NRM Central Executive Committee, Tanna is ready to make Uganda “a land of milk, honey, and mobile money.”

They say you can’t fatten a cow on market day, but Tanna has been feeding Uganda’s potential long before the political drums started beating for 2026.

While others were busy exchanging handshakes and hashtags, Tanna was digging where the ground was soft, planting scholarships, jobs, and businesses that have blossomed into livelihoods for hundreds.

One case in point is a young man from Nakatunya in Soroti city plucked from the jaws of economic despair like a brand from the fire, now a shining example of what happens when opportunity meets compassion. If Tanna were a carpenter, he’d be known for building futures not just furniture. Several examples across Tororo who have gone through Tan Memorial secondary school and now in their university or Vacational institutions.

One People, Different Colors– Unity, Not Uniformity

In a country often sliced by tribal cleavers and party knives, Tanna’s motto, “One people, different colors,” is not just poetic it’s prophetic. Like a rainbow after a storm, it’s a reminder that beauty lies in our differences. He’s not building walls; he’s constructing bridges long enough to span political gulfs and strong enough to carry Uganda’s youth across them.

While others campaign with empty hands and full promises, Tanna shows up with receipts. The Tan Group of Companies—spanning telecoms, security, and media—is not just creating jobs; it’s creating dignity. In a nation where unemployment clings to the youth

, Tanna’s businesses are oases in a desert of despair.

Remember that 2020 election brawl between Capt. Mike Mukula and Tanna? It had more sparks than a village disco. But now, in a plot twist worthy of a Nollywood script, the two have joined hands like long-lost brothers at a clan meeting. “Political rivalry can yield collaboration for the greater good,” Mukula said, probably surprising even himself.

This alliance isn’t just water under the bridge it’s a whole dam of possibilities.

Of course, the usual skeptics are already sharpening their pens. “Can he really rise above politics-as-usual?” they ask. To which we say: “When the dance is good, the drummer cannot be ignored.” Tanna’s track record is louder than a campaign vuvuzela and twice as persistent.

He doesn’t just speak the language of entrepreneurs he thinks in it. While others are writing policies, Tanna is offering solutions .

If Uganda wants to leap into the future, it can’t keep hopping on one leg. We need a balance of vision and action, of power and purpose. And in Tanna, we may just have found the leader who doesn’t just promise to fish for us he’s building boats, teaching us to fish, and stocking the lakes while he’s at it.

As the 2026 horizon draws near, Uganda stands at the crossroads. One path leads to more of the same: speeches that float like balloons and pop just as fast. The other? It’s lit by the torch of Sanjay Tanna, who may very well be the candle in the wind Uganda needs to chase away its economic darkness.

Choose Tanna not just because he can lead, but because he can deliver. And as the old saying goes, “When the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind.”
