KATAKWI
Government intends to establish fully-furnished specialized hospitals in Katakwi and Lwengo, which have been identified as areas with a lack of adequate specialized health services, particularly for noncommunicable diseases, with the assistance of USA-based partners.
Despite some political interference, Her Excellency the Vice President Maj. Rtd Jessca Rose Alupo Epel on Thursday, 22nd May, 2025 told residents of Angodingod Sub County in Toroma County that a modern specialized hospital will be established in the districts of Katakwi and Lwengo to fulfil better health care.
According to Alupo, development haters continue to pursue her, attempting to stymie the construction of the super-specialized hospital in Katakwi, which she considers to be dragging her active service delivery to the country, noting that in 2026, the same team of political forces fought her during the 2016 general elections for establishing Soroti University while she was minister of education and sports.
Despite obstacles to such development, she revealed that President Yoweri Museveni declared in a letter dated February 1, 2024, that the government, with cooperation from US-based partners, will create two new specialized ‘western style’ fully outfitted grid hospitals in the districts of Lwengo and Katakwi.
The fully furnished specialty hospitals are planned for both the Katakwi and Lwengo districts. Katakwi and Lwengo were recognized as regions lacking adequate specialist health care, notably for non-communicable diseases.
Nonetheless the vice president has urged faithful’s in Teso to strongly condemn haters of progress for the Ateker community in order to achieve better health care in regions and Uganda as whole.
