SIRONKO

Born into a humble and God-fearing family in Bumasifa Sub-county, Sironko District, Hon. Florence Nambozo Wamala’s story is one of resilience, faith, and service.
Raised by Mzee Wamala Petero, she grew up among the scenic hills of Sironko, where she toiled in the gardens and played alongside other local children. With strong ties to the Church, young Nambozo was an active member of the choir at Buhugu Cathedral, where her leadership traits began to shine.
She later married Mr. Mayoga Henry, a civil servant and a thriving businessman born in Sironko, and together they began building a life rooted in shared values and community service.
Education and Professional Life
Nambozo began her education in rural schools before transitioning to urban institutions for higher learning. She graduated from Kyambogo University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and went on to teach in several schools, including the Aga Khan Education Centre in Kololo.
Her passion for leadership and governance drove her to further her studies, and in 2023, she earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Christian University. She is also actively enrolled for a PhD at the same university.
Entry into Politics
In 2013, Nambozo made her first attempt at elective politics, contesting for the Sironko District Woman MP seat and distributing education materials. She returned in 2015 and won the seat on the NRM ticket, reclaiming a position the party had lost after former Minister of the Presidency, Beatrice Wabudeya, left office.
In 2021, after losing in the NRM primaries to Asha Nabulo, the daughter of Hon. Lumolo, Nambozo defied the odds by running as an independent candidate, and she won her second term.
Her biggest political breakthrough came in 2023 when she was appointed State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, replacing Hon Agnes Nandutu. The appointment surprised many but was celebrated by her supporters as a testament to her commitment and growing influence.
Community Impact
Hon. Nambozo is widely respected in Sironko for her dedication to promoting girls’ education and supporting vulnerable families. She has championed numerous initiatives aimed at empowering young girls and helping children from disadvantaged backgrounds access education.
The Road Ahead
Currently, Hon. Florence Nambozo is seeking a third term in Parliament. Her journey, from the dusty classrooms of rural Uganda to the cabinet table continues to inspire a new generation of leaders, particularly young women across the region.
