A tragic incident unfolded in Northern City Division, Mbale City on June 11th , 2025, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
A 17-year-old boy only identified as Muhammad was lynched by angry residents after being caught with a stolen smartphone and a blood-stained panga, linking him to the murder of 18-year-old Jane Nambuya.
According to eyewitnesses, Nambuya was attacked by two youths while returning from buying charcoal. They demanded her smartphone, and when she resisted, one of the attackers cut her neck with a panga, killing her instantly.
SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson says the assailants fled with the phone but were pursued by onlookers, who managed to apprehend Muhammad.
He says in a fit of rage, the crowd lynched Muhammad on the spot. The police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
The incident highlights the growing concern over mob justice and the need for communities to seek justice through legal means.
