Mr. Simon Ongura, the Vice Chairperson Bukedea District has emerged as winner in NRM party primaries after beating his closest rival, Joseph Onange in the LCV seat race.

Ongura’s chances increased a day to the election after the incumbent Mary Akol stepped down from the race due to illness.

In the election yesterday 24th, July 2025, Mr. Ongura managed to score 78,557 votes defeating his rival Onange who scored 11,427 votes.

Mr. Charles Otai, the Bukedea District NRM Party Registrar declared Ongura as the district chairperson NRM flag bearer.

He said the elections went on well and all the results from various sub counties were delivered to the tally centre on time.

“With powers entrusted to me as Bukedea District Party Registrar, I therefore declare a person who got more votes as a winner and that’s Simon Ongura”, said Mr. Otai.

However, Mr Joseph Onange challenged the defeat saying his polling agents in some of the polling stations were chased.

“I am not satisfied with the results, most of the polling stations such as Kocheka, my agents were chased away”, said Mr. Onange.
