MBALE CITY
John Wekesa Wambogo, the Mbale district National Resistance Movement (NRM) Interim party chairperson and Industrial City Division NRM flag bearer for the MP seat, has lost the party’s city chairperson by-election to Hirome Murimo.
The by-election was held on August 1, 2025, at Mbale Secondary School playground located in the Industrial city division.
Initially, elections were held in June, and Wambogo was declared the winner. However, his opponent petitioned against the victory, citing irregularities.
Tang Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson, ordered fresh elections, which took place on August 1, 2025. Other candidates withdrew from the race, leaving only Murimo and Wambogo as contestants.
Murimo won the election with 64 votes, while Wambogo garnered 50 votes. After the election, Murimo pledged to build the party in Mbale City and ensure NRM candidates win all election positions from LC1 to mayor seat.
Wambogo accepted defeat and announced that he will now focus on the MP position for Industrial City Division, aiming to win that seat.
He also pledged to work with Murimo for the good and development of the party in Mbale City.
