A devastating road accident occurred on the night of Saturday, 2nd August 2025 at 8pm on the Tororo-Mbale highway near the Tororo sewerage facility roundabout claiming four lives and injuring several others.
The accident involved a trailer (registration number ZD 6204), a motorcycle (UGC 752X), and a saloon car (UAQ 948X).
According to eyewitnesses, the trailer failed to brake and rammed into the motorcycle carrying a rider and two passengers, killing all three instantly.
The trailer then crashed into the saloon car, killing one of its occupants and critically injuring others.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Tororo General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem, while the injured were rushed to various health facilities in Tororo town for emergency care.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the trailer was speeding at the time of the accident.
Authorities have launched a full inquiry into the incident, with police urging all road users to observe speed limits and follow traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
This accident marks the second fatal incident at the same spot in less than a week, prompting renewed calls from residents and motorists for stricter traffic enforcement.
Many accuse trailer drivers of reckless driving, with some allegedly operating under the influence of alcohol.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing deep concern over the rising number of accidents claiming lives in the area.
