The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, has today August 7, 2025 announced more adjustments regarding nomination of candidates for various elective posts as earlier stated.
The Commission however maintained nomination date for presidential candidates from September 23-24, 2025. The commission chairperson reasoned the adjustments were done after it was discovered that the original electoral roadmap was too ambitious adding that since the roadmap is not static, it had to be reviewed as the law provides.
Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi explained the adjustments of the nomination dates and broke them down as follows;
For LC5 chairpersons, Lord Mayor and Lord councillors, earlier the nomination had been scheduled from 3-12 September 2025 but this has been adjusted to 3-5 September 2025. This will take place at the city offices or District returning offices.
The nomination for Municipality Mayor, and Division councilors has been rescheduled from 8- 10 September 2025 and the nomination exercise will take place at their respective Municipality offices.
Nomination for sub-county or division LC3 chairpersons and their councilors will take place from 11-24 September 2025 excluding weekends. The nomination venue will be at the sub-county or division offices. Nomination forms and guidelines will be collected at their respective division offices starting Monday 11, August 2025.
Nomination of parliamentary candidates which was earlier scheduled to take place from 16-17 September 2025, has been rescheduled from 15-16 October 2025 and will take place at their respective districts or returning offices. All aspirants are required to get names and signatures of their supporters.
Nomination of presidential candidates has been maintained from 23-24 September 2025. The commission has designated Monday 11 August 2025 for collection of nomination forms plus forms for names and signatures of their supporters.
Each presidential aspirant is required to have not less than 100 signatures of registered voters per district from two thirds of the districts (98 districts).
All presidential candidates are supposed to submit the forms bearing the names and signatures of their supporters two weeks prior to the nomination day. Therefore, all the aspirants should have submitted these forms by September 10, 2025.
All presidential candidates must pick nomination forms physically at the Commission’s Headquarters. This is intended to allow the commission to verify the candidates and document them so that Commission can notify the local leadership not to disrupt them when collecting signatures.
Aspirants who wish to stand as independent must present proof before the commission that they are registered voters.
On the Law regarding use of biometric machines during the polls, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said it’s in offing and assured candidates and their supporters of stable internet connection during the 2026 general elections.
In conclusion, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi informed presidential, parliamentary and Mayoral aspirants to download nomination forms from the commission’s website starting on Monday 11 August 2025. While for councilors at Sub County, district and division level should collect them at their respective offices.
