Police in Wandegeya, in partnership with the National Drug Authority (NDA), on Monday the 18th of August 2025 arrested an individual identified as Ogwenga Nicholas and recovered illegal drugs in Nakasero that were being falsely marketed as treatment for hypertension.
The arrest followed an AI-generated video that featured Dr. Okello Emmy of the Uganda Heart Institute, purportedly advertising a drug called Hyper Guard. Dr. Okello later lodged a complaint with the Police, clarifying that he had no knowledge of either the drug or the video.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Area, says their subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, who was promoting the drug on social media.
“We conducted a search at a store in Nakasero, where we recovered over 2,000 small boxes of Hyper Guard and Man Power Tabs and a case file is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal advice.” Said ASP Owoyesigyire.
He cautioned the public against buying or using drugs from unlicensed dealers and urged them to always seek medication through authorized health facilities and pharmacies.
By the time of filing this story, the suspect was detained at Wandegeya Police Station as investigations continue.
