NRM Southern Africa Chapter Gears Up for Presidential Support Campaign

SOUTH AFRICA

In a powerful demonstration of commitment, the National Resistance Movement Southern Africa Chapter (NRM SAC) has mobilized the Great Trek Taskforce to rally grassroots support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s re-election bid across Uganda. Over 400 members and 50 vehicles have been organized from their South African headquarters to take the campaign door-to-door.

This initiative builds on a strong history of the Southern Africa Chapter actively backing President Museveni’s campaigns with various tools, including grassroots mobilization, voter education, and distribution of campaign materials in Southern Africa and Uganda. Notably, the chapter supported President Museveni in the 2016/17 elections where he secured 60.75% of the vote, and most recently in the 2020/21 elections where he won with approximately 59.27%, consolidating his long-standing leadership.

Chairperson Isma Luzige, who coordinates the taskforce, together with Organizing Committee Chair Eid Mugoya, leads a team that also includes provincial chairpersons and National Executive Committee members. The group is scheduled to leave for Uganda on November 25.

Luzige described the campaign’s objectives: “Our primary mission is to mobilize resources for the presidential campaign and support for all NRM flag bearers across the country. Through this door-to-door campaign and deployment of over 50 vehicles, we aim to engage communities directly, highlighting the party’s achievements and future plans to secure at least 85% support for victory.”

The campaign, branded under the theme “Protecting the gains as we make a qualitative leap into high middle-income status,” reflects the diaspora’s commitment to Uganda’s political stability and economic growth.

The taskforce’s arrival in Uganda will be marked by a reception from NRM officials and the diaspora league, underscoring the unity of effort between Ugandans at home and abroad. Their goal is to support President Museveni in securing at least 85% of the vote and a decisive victory.

In his remarks, Chairperson Luzige called for unity among Ugandans both at home and abroad, stating, “Let us stand together as one people to secure at least 85% support and a decisive victory for President Museveni.”

He also praised Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency Ambassador Paul Amoru, for his instrumental role in uniting the Ugandan community in Southern Africa.

Gratitude was extended to Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, and Major (Rtd) Pollar Awich, patrons of the NRM Diaspora Campaign Taskforce, for their leadership in strengthening the diaspora league and facilitating diaspora member registration.

Organizing Committee Chairperson Eid Mugoya emphasized the collective responsibility in this critical campaign phase, stating, “This Great Trek is not just a political exercise but a call for unity and determination. Our aim is to support President Museveni with at least 85% support and a clear victory.”

This unified diaspora effort seeks to rally overwhelming voter support to guarantee a strong mandate for President Museveni and all NRM candidates in the upcoming elections.
