Ugandans in the UK joined in celebrating Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day

Ugandans living in the United Kingdom came together with renewed spirit to celebrate Independence Day at the Ugandan High Commission in London, an event that coincided with the Kololo celebrations back home in Kampala.

The gathering reflected Uganda’s rich cultural heritage, strong diplomatic ties, and the dynamic role of the diaspora in driving national development.

Her Excellency, Nimisha Madhvani, Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ambassador to Ireland, highlighted the significance of Independence Day as a moment to honor Uganda’s resilience and cultural heritage. She urged continued collaboration among government sectors, businesses, and civil society to strengthen unity and accelerate the nation’s progress.

The celebrations included traditional music, dance performances, and an array of Ugandan culinary delights, showcasing the country’s diverse cultural tapestry.

Moses Mulimira, a prominent UK-based Ugandan health advocate, expressed his appreciation for the High Commission and the Ugandan government’s support of diaspora-led health initiatives. He emphasized the diaspora’s growing contributions to Uganda’s health sector and broader economic development.

Participants from various countries and members of the Ugandan Diaspora Allied Health Professionals joined the event, making it an inclusive celebration that fostered community cohesion across borders. Parallel festivities were also held in other UK cities such as Croydon, where flag-raising ceremonies and community gatherings further strengthened ties with Uganda.

The 63rd Independence celebrations served as a powerful reminder of Uganda’s journey and a call to redouble efforts toward building a united, prosperous nation. The diaspora, with its active role in health, trade, and development, remains a key partner in Uganda’s ongoing story of progress.
