JUST IN! Kenya Declares Public Holiday In Mourning Hon. Raila Odinga

The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, CS Kipchumba Murkomen has declared Friday, 17th October, 2025, a Public Holiday in mourning of the deceased Raila Amolo Odinga.

 

In a national gazette dated Thursday, 16th October, Murkomen invokes Section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, notifies the general public that Friday, 16th October, 2025, “Shall be a Public Holiday in honor of the departed former Prime Minister, Rt Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.”

 

Odinga passed away in the morning hours of Wednesday 15th October in India where he had gone for medical treatment.

 

His body is expected today, Thursday back in Kenya aboard Kenya Airways Flight that was dispatched to repatriate his remains.

 

Prior to Murkomen’s declaration, President Ruto had proclaimed seven days of national mourning saying the departed Raila Odinga deserves to be accorded a State Funeral with all the attendant protocols.
